But for some of us, repetitive, negative thoughts can have a real, damaging, physiological effect on our bodies. Runaway thoughts can become so distracting that they take up all of our conscious awareness without us even being aware of it! Eventually we end up missing out on the most important part of life, our capacity to live in, and enjoy, the moment.
Daily meditation is a tool that trains your mind to consciously live in the moment through feeling instead of thinking. This not only calms the mind but eventually changes our relationship with thoughts; allowing us to observe them as just another part of experience instead of living through them.
Hi, I'm Tom, a graphic designer and meditation geek based in the UK. I got into yoga a few years ago and after taking a mindfulness course I started making these little ditties and doodles for my own amusement.
After inflicting some of this terrible poetry on some friends and getting positive feedback I decided to make them into a book and now I'm on the hunt for a publisher! Unlike a lot of meditation books "You Verses Thoughts" uses bad language, irreverent humour and downright silliness to get its point across.
